CF Fairview Park Shopping Centre
Completion Date: 2021
Location: Kitchener, Ontario
Cadillac Fairview (CF) commissioned PETROFF to establish a multi-phase redevelopment strategy that would expand their property at Fairview Park Mall beyond its traditional enclosed shopping centre format through enhanced site design and landscaping, the addition of a mix of new uses including office and residential, and the addition of new outward facing retail spaces that would transform the property into a more vibrant, pedestrian-friendly mixed-use district. Completed in 2021, the initial phases of work focused on site works including upgraded landscaping, reconfiguration of existing on-site ION Station bus terminal, new driveway access and parking areas, and significant renovation of the existing vacant 140,000 sf Sears into a more commercially viable block that would support the introduction of new retail tenants and a new mall entrance. As an acknowledgement to the City of Kitchener’s industrial heritage and the architectural significance of the existing Sears façade Kennedy era international style, facades at the renovated Sears block were designed to preserve sections of the existing ribbed precast concrete and glazed brick. To compliment the preserved cladding, PETROFF designed the remaining portions of the renovated Sears façade that form the new tenant storefronts and unique smoke stack chimney architectural feature with a mix of new dark metal panel detailing and red brick cladding.
