Wenzhou Grand Theatre
Completion Date: 2010
Location: Wenzhou, Zhejiang Province, The People’s Republic of China
Size: 200,000 sq. ft.
Associate Design Architect: Carlos Ott Architects
Located in Wenzhou, China, the Wenzhou Gran Theatre is one of the most important cultural facilities in the region. PETROFF and Design Architect Carlos Ott were hired to provide architectural, interior and urban design services for this project. The project consists of a 1,500 seat theatre, a 640 seat concert hall, as well as a 200 seat multi-functional theatre, all housed within a 200,000 sq. ft. building.
The concept behind the theatre was to create a unique, modern, suggestive and sculptural symbol of the people and the culture of Wenzhou. Linking it to its maritime environment, the Wenzhou Grand Theatre has been inspired by a golden fish in its pond. Thus its shape and color create a unique form with its tail marked by a waterfall over the main entrance as a fresh splash of water.
